First, I purchased these frames with the double mattes for .25 each at a garage sale.
Second, I pulled the double mattes apart. These mattes were glued together so they did not come apart perfectly. Don't worry though because you will not see most of the bottom matte. Next, I used spray adhesive on the front of the top matte which I am going to cover with vintage sheet music.
I literally just tore pieces of the sheet music and stuck them to the mat. (You can use Mod Podge for this project as well)
Here is a picture of my hubby holding up the mat once covered with the sheet music so you can see exactly how imperfect it is.
Now it's time to mat the actual artwork that you want to frame. I had some scraps of this great Cavallini & Co paper that I used but you could use scrapbook paper or gift wrap... They sky's the limit.
I sprayed the back side of the under matte with adhesive and placed it on the paper. Then I trimmed it.Put the mattes together and this is what you have.
I decided to hang my frames by ribbon on decorative knobs. ( I only had one but will get the other one tomorrow)
I hope you enjoyed the project.. I would love to hear what you think. Thanks for reading.
Love,
Kristy
