Some room reveals...

Hello Everyone! I'm finally back from my trip to Vegas.  It was a very long and exhausting trip  but it was also very successful.  I was able to make a huge dent in the house I had gone to decorate. The project was a lot more work than I originally anticipated. But aren't they all? When I arrived at the house it already had the main furniture in all rooms and for the most part the furniture was arranged appropriately with a few minor exceptions.  All of the home decor items had mostly been put in one room to make choosing items easier. Sounds easy right?  Well, it wasn't quite that simple.  There were a ton of boxes to go through and be moved, a lot of pictures that had needed to be leveled and hung, and curtain rods had to be installed.  I also had some overall challenges.  For example, I was using furniture and home decor items that were purchased for a completely different house. The houses have different layouts and room configurations which in my part just took a little more thought and planning.

I was not great with the picture taking even though I originally took this job in part because of the desire to put it on this blog.  That is something I definitely have to work on.

Here are some before pics so you can get an idea of what the overall house looked like.

I thought I had taken pics of the living room, kitchen, and dining room but I guess I didn't.. oops

Below are some pics of what some of the rooms looked like when I left.

The living room
You can't tell in the photo but the blanket on the couch is a beautiful green.
Dining area right next to the living room.
Entryway
Ok, so there you have the living room, dining, and entryway.. I will post the pics of the kitchen, family room, and bedrooms soon. I will be back in the swing of blogging shortly.. The kids go back to school in two weeks. Can I get a woot woot!!

Love,
Kristy

Kitchen Redo

Ok so I missed my deadline by a day.  However, I did reveal the dining room so I should get some points for that.

Well without further adieu, here is my new kitchen.

As a reminder, here is what my kitchen looked like before. A dated wood with big black iron hinges that looked a bit industrial.

And here is my kitchen now....

I used Benjamin Moore White Dove to paint all the cabinets. It really lightens up the whole kitchen especially since my kitchen is a bit on the smaller side.  I may still tweak a few things as I find some accessories that I am on the hunt for but for now, I am super happy with the way it turned out.

Dining Room Reveal

ok well, I finished the dining room! Of course there are still a few things that I may add in the future like crown moulding and maybe wainscoting but for now, I am happy with how it looks.

I was terrible about the pics in the dining room.  I forgot to take before pics!  I know that takes half of the fun out of  the reveal, sorry!  I did have these pics from a previous post. These are the cabinets that I  had in the dining room. They were red before. I added moulding to the doors, painted them white, and added wainscoting.

Here is what it looks like now!

The hutch was one of my "big" projects. I took off the doors to make it open. I used Annie Soans Chalk paint to paint it, This is Graphite. I thought it was going to be black but it is actually a little more gray. I love how it turned out. My milk glass collection really pops.

The scrabble letters add a bit of whimsy.

I added some vintage silver from a set that my Mom passed down to me.

A vignette I did with a shef and frame I also painted in the AS Graphite.

I love these bowls! Aren't they cute? I got them at Real Deals for 2.49

This is a vintage chandalier I purchased for 60.00 from Craigslist. I painted it black and made a white cord cover for it.  I think I might add some shades to it if I find some.

Here is my another big project. These were the red cabinets. I painted them white, added moulding, and the wainscoting. We also added new hardware to them.

And there you have it... I am done for now with the dining room.  The kitchen is coming soon! I would love to hear what you think so please leave a comment.

Be sure to check the link parties that I participate in.  I am linking up to a new party for me anyway this week. A 2 Z

It's been too long.. but I'm back!

Hello Everyone! It has been one heck of a week.  All last week I worked on my dining room and kitchen. I do now see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I have to admit though that I am ready to be finished with this project once and for all! I'm ready to move on to the next which is why I am giving myself a deadline. The deadline will be next Sunday at 5:00PM.  At that time I will reveal the entire project.

This weekend I spent in a cabin with my family in Walla Walla, WA.  It was a much needed "time out" for all of us.  When we weren't busy playing practical jokes on each other, laughing, and roasting marshmallows I had some quiet time to plan my next big project.

Well, I better go since I only have 6 days 19 hours and 30 minutes left until my deadline.

Here are some pics on some of my progress in the dining room.

The trim is complete on the window and I made this window treatment myself, what do you think?

I'm sorry for the less than stellar picture but I wanted to show you how we trimmed out the passage way from the kitchen to the dining room in the same trim as the window.

Part of my inspiration for my dining room/kitchen. The style for this room is  French Cottage Cottage.
Here is the cabin we stayed at this weekend. Cute huh?  The pictures below are just some fun ones I took.

A little bit of nostalgia and some chalk paint...

I hope everyone is had a nice weekend.  We had a rainy one which really put a "damper" on my some of my painting projects.  I was however,  able to complete one.

Last weekend while I was out driving with my hubby from garage sale to garage sale our car broke down.  It was such a drag. Fortunately for us though we were at a light in front of a auto repair center. We literally pushed the car to the shop. We had to wait for the car to cool down before the mechanic could look at it so we sat in the little waiting room.  We were growing impatient because after all it was Saturday, a beautiful day, and there were a ton of garage sales.  After about fifteen minutes I was anxious and walking around the shop. I walked over to the window outside because I noticed some commotion.  Well God must have been with me that day because right next door to the shop was an RV dealer and guess what they were hosting?  Yep, a community garage sale right there in the parking lot!  Who else gets to garage sale while they wait for their car to be looked at? It was a good day! (Even though we also found out that we needed a new radiator)

It was there that I found this beauty.  It is a record cabinet. We have quite a record collection and I am always looking for ways to store them.  I have never seen a cabinet like this before but I loved the lines of it. What I liked even more was that it was only 10.00! Score!  Now I know that the popularity of records was really before my time but there is something about them that my hubby and I find so nostalgic. I swear that we are old souls.

If you are a reader of my blog you have heard me mention several times that I really wanted to try Annie Sloan's chalk paint.  Well I finally broke down and ordered the paint despite the cost.  And I must say, the paint is totally worth the 35.00 per quart. It is awesome! What I loved even more then the paint was the Annie Sloan wax.  For this piece, I did two coats of AS Old Ochre followed by a light sanding to distress. Then I added a coat of clear wax and let it dry. After it was dry, I applied a coat of the dark wax. The dark wax has to be applied quickly and wiped off quickly. Then I sanded a little more and voila! Here she is!

Until tomorrow,
Kristy

I want to put moulding everywhere!

If you are a reader of my blog you know that I have been working on my kitchen and dining room for the last month or so. Everytime, I think I am just about finished though I find something else that I want to do or add to the rooms so it seems to be never ending.

Here is an example:

After painting the cabinets white, I came to the realization that I wanted the window trim to be white too instead of the golden honey oak that it was stained.  Well not only did I decide they needed to be painted but I decided that I wanted new trim too. (My poor hubby, he is such a good sport)

But now..........Dare I say it?
I want to do this to all my windows.
All 22 of them!

Hubby, If you're reading...... I really do love you!

Another Burlap Pillow

Hello Everyone.. I hope everybody had a great weekend.  I went to a lot of yard sales this weekend. I will show you some of my goodies tomorrow..
So, last week I showed you my burlap pillow that I made. Well today I did another one to match but I changed it up a bit. I will include pics of the process too.
The finished pillow!
This is after I sewed the ruffle trim around the edges of the burlap top layer of the pillow.
This is the bottom layer of the pillow. This layer is toile fabric instead of burlap like my first pillow.  I did an envelope style pillow cover.

This is the same kind of flower I did on the other pillow, the only difference is I added a vintage button cover in the center of this one.  I like the little bit of sparkle it adds.

This is the final resting spot for my two new burlap pillows.  The bench I picked up at an estate sale for 20.00 a year or so ago. The two vintage fruit crates underneath are two of my finds from this weekend. They were 3.00 each, I love them but I am not sure of where they will live for sure yet.

Until tomorrow,
Kristy
